25 Of The Best Places To Visit In April In The USA
April is a great month to explore the country, enjoy early sun, and shake off winter blues! With warmer weather and blooming flowers, it’s a perfect time for city breaks or beach vacations. From my own time spent traveling around the US, here are my all-time favorite spots to visit this month…
1. Naples, Florida
I found this upscale Gulf Coast city to be a perfect spring getaway – in April, I enjoyed warm, sunny days with low humidity and barely any rain, ideal for lounging on paradise-like beaches, dining outdoors, and spotting cute dolphins – all without the crazy chaos of Miami’s spring break crowds, which made it feel like a laid-back, luxurious escape!
Although that doesn’t mean it was dull! I saw that there were lots of events taking place which included the community-focused Earth Day Festival at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, the thrilling Minto U.S. Open Pickleball Championships which drew top players from around the world, and the prestigious Terra Cotta Invitational golf tournament.
I flew fly into Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, then drove 45 minutes south and spent a dreamy week-long vacation here.
I spent it sunbathing on Vanderbilt Beach, kayaking through mangroves in Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, going gator-spotting on an Everglades airboat tour and discovering all the superb upscale boutique and fine dining on Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South.

My favorite highlights…
- Staying in the lush 4-star Inn at Pelican Bay – I loved the boutique styling, the lakeside dining, and all the lux details such as the trendy fire pits, the Peloton bikes in the gym and the lush Serta® Sweet Dreams pillow-top mattresses!
2. Texas Hill Country
Visiting this scenic region in April turned out to be the perfect choice – I watched the landscape burst into life with stunning carpets of wildflowers, from iconic bluebonnets to delicate primroses and vibrant Indian paintbrushes, creating a breathtaking springtime scene.
I loved that the weather was also mild and sunny, so it just perfect for enjoying scenic drives, visiting vineyards, exploring quaint towns such as Fredericksburg and Wimberley, and hiking natural spots without the intense summer heat.
During my visit, I noticed the region was buzzing with fun spring events – there was the iconic Bluebonnet Festival in Burnet, the lively Hill Country Craft Beer Festival in New Braunfels, the family-friendly EasterFest BBQ Cook-Off & Car Show in Kerrville, and the fragrant Annual Lavender Fest at Becker Vineyards.
I flew into Austin-Bergstrom then drove just an hour to reach the Hill Country but I stayed for a wonderful two weeks. I drove the scenic Willow City Loop where I saw blankets of bluebonnets, hiked the pink granite dome at Enchanted Rock, and sipped wine at Becker Vineyards during wildflower season.
I also checked out art and crafts at Wimberley Market Day, and sampled the local cuisine in farm-to-table restaurants – the peach cobblers, breakfast tacos and apple strudels were my favorites!

My personal highlights…
- Staying at the unique Barons CreekSide Resort – I adored my hand-crafted Swiss log cabin (complete with hot tub!) which was named after the Swiss town of Grindelwald and the live traditional European music!
- Sampling the aromatic 2023 Viognier Reserve at the picturesque Pedernales Cellars, the hill-top views were also stunning!
3. Santa Catalina Island, California
This picturesque island really wowed me during this month! I was thrilled to find that spring brought pleasantly mild, sunny weather, the hills were dotted with blooming wildflowers, and the island felt blissfully uncrowded – it was the perfect time to explore and enjoy outdoor adventures before the busy summer season kicked in.
I timed my visit perfectly to catch spring events and there was a whole host taking place this month, including the Catalina Spring Art Fair and Craft Festival, the family-friendly Community Easter Egg Hunt at Descanso Beach, the elegant Catalina Island Conservancy Ball, and the festive waterfront SpringFest which featured food, fun games, and live entertainment!
I took the one hour Catalina Express ferry from Dana Point and spent a gorgeous long weekend there.
Aside from the events, I hiked the wildflower-lined Garden to Sky Trail, kayaked through interesting sea caves at Descanso Beach, spotted free-roaming bison on an inland eco tour, and enjoyed dolphin sightings on a glass-bottom boat cruise from Avalon!

- Staying in the lovely boutique Avalon Hotel – I adored the lush gardens which had a koi pond, the boho vibe, the rooftop sunbathing area and the personal touches such as the hand-wrapped caramel sweets at turn-down!
- Sipping on a punchy Poh-Kay Bowl and Dragonberry Mojito at the trendy Descanso Beach Club!
4. Sedona, Arizona
I learnt firsthand that Sedona is a fantastic place to visit in April – I found that the weather was warm but not scorching, the red rock landscapes looked especially vivid beneath the clear spring skies, desert wildflowers like marigolds and prickly pear cactus blooms were everywhere, and it was the ideal time to hike and explore without the heavy summer crowds.
I was lucky to catch some awesome events on too! During April, there was the Piano on the Rocks International Festival, the annual Sedona Yoga Festival, Earth Medicine Festival which celebrated Earth Day with holistic healing and music.
I drove 40 minutes here from Flagstaff on a spring road trip and stopped for a unique three days. I hiked Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock desert trails which were lined with pretty flowers, took a scenic drive through Oak Creek Canyon, enjoyed stargazing under Sedona’s dark, unpolluted skies, discovered the charming Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, and joined a very intriguing energy vortex tour!

- Staying at the romantic Inn Above Oak Creek Sedona – I loved that it was once an art gallery, the beautiful setting, my jetted tub, and Moki, the adorable resident black Spaniel!
- Indulging in a restorative Ancestral Stone Massage at the gorgeous Mii Amo Spa.
5. Antelope Valley, California
I took an Insta-worthy spring trip to this high desert region during this month and I found the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve blanketed in brilliant orange poppies – blooming from mid-March to early May – creating one of the state’s most breathtaking wildflower displays, all set against rolling hills and vast open skies that made it perfect for springtime hikes and dreamy photography.
I also really enjoyed the vibrant Antelope Valley Poppy Festival (which took place this month in nearby Lancaster), the charming Almond Blossom Festival in Quartz Hill with its parade and crafts, and the colorful Antelope Valley Spring Fair which featured live music, rides, and fun family-friendly entertainment.
I drove two hours north from Los Angeles for a long weekend break and as well as the events, I hiked the beautiful trails, enjoyed gorgeous wildflower views at Tehachapi Vista Point, and explored the tranquil Prime Desert Woodland Preserve.

6. Tidal Basin and Washington DC
I took a weekend break here in early April and it turned out to be a great decision! The Tidal Basin had exploded into color with thousands of cherry blossoms at peak bloom, creating a breathtakingly beautiful and romantic backdrop for exploring the city in the mild, sun-dappled spring weather.
As well as seeing the pretty and fragrant pink and white flowers, I also caught the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and this month also hosted the lively Petalpalooza waterfront celebration, and the Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival which showcased vibrant culture.
I flew into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and the four days I spent here proved to enough to attend the festival, wander beneath the picturesque cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin, visit the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials which were framed by pretty spring blooms, and watch the kite flyers on the National Mall.

My favorite highlights…
- Walking the scenic Tidal Basin Loop Trail and seeing the gorgeous cherry blossoms along the way – I especially loved seeing the locally famous “indicator tree” and the crabapple trees too.
7. Bisti Badlands, New Mexico
I visited this remote and otherworldly desert wilderness during April and experienced the perfect weather for hiking as the temperatures were mild and comfortable. It was awesome to explore the hauntingly beautiful landscape of eroded hoodoos, petrified wood, and alien-like rock formations without the intense summer heat or winter chill.
I was also treated to the sight of hardy desert plants like cacti, yucca, and succulents bursting into picturesque bloom, and there were even some fun spring events happening throughout the month to add to the experience!
I flew into into Albuquerque International Sunport, drove about three hours northwest and stayed in nearby Bloomfield for a very unique long weekend. That was enough to hike through the otherworldly rock formations at Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, and gaze in awe at the famous Cracked Eggs and Alien Throne.

My highlights…
- Taking the unmarked four-mile round trip from the main Bisti Access Parking Area to the surreal Egg Factory – an eerie wash where I saw cracked, fossil-like rock formations that looked like alien eggs, surrounded by total desert silence!
8. Port Townsend, Washington 
I discovered that this charming Victorian seaport made a unique, relaxed short break during April! I found the weather had begun to warm, the pretty cherry blossoms and spring wildflowers had bloomed around its charming Victorian streets and waterfront parks, and I could explore and spot migrating whales all without the peak-season crowds and inflated prices!
I loved that spring had also brought some awesome events, there was busy Port Townsend Farmers Market which had just reopened for the season and the community-focused Port Townsend Earth Day Beach Cleanup.
I drove two hours northwest from Seattle and I based myself here for four peaceful days. As well as the events, I enjoyed picturesque hikes through the flower-filled trails at Fort Worden State Park, browsed local art at the Jefferson Museum of Art & History, went whale-spotting (and managed to see them!) in Admiralty Inlet, and explored the springtime charm of the historic downtown and waterfront district.

My highlights…
- Staying at the unique Manresa Castle which was housed in a fine century-old building. I loved the dark wood and red ornate interiors and hearing from the staff how it was designed to resemble the castles of the owner’s native Prussia.
- Dining on maitake mushrooms, balsamic, sage and the tasty Aval Cider at the cozy Finistère restaurant.
9. Flint Hills, Kansas
I discovered that visiting this vast, scenic region during April was incredible – the tallgrass prairie had started turning a vibrant green with fresh spring growth, wildflowers were beginning to bloom across the rolling hills, and the mild weather was perfect for scenic drives and exploring the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.
I learnt it was a great time for wildlife spotting – the bison, deer, and prairie dogs that roam the area were more active in spring, and with fewer crowds than in summer, it felt like I had the peaceful prairie almost to myself.
I also really enjoyed photographing the atmospheric prairie burning, which took place every spring – they were well-managed and stuck to a strict schedule.
To my delight, I also found events on during April which included the Chase County Spring Bazaar which was filled with handmade crafts and local food, the weekly Emporia First Friday Art Walk and the family-friendly Flint Hills Discovery Center Earth Day Celebration.
I drove two hours drive southwest of Kansas City and spent a unique four days here. I hiked through the spring-flower filled Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, took a scenic drive along the Flint Hills Scenic Byway, visited the cute historic town of Cottonwood Falls, and gazed in awe at the reborn prairie landscapes!

- Staying in unique luxury tents with boho-chic interiors at Flint Hills Glamping site – I loved the handwoven rugs, copper vintage lanterns, and plush bedding!
- Admiring paintings from talented local artists at the Flint Hills Gallery, I loved bison the pictures which were painted on reclaimed barn wood!
10. Miami, Florida
Last year I felt like I had to do the obligatory Miami spring break, so timing my trip for this month was an awesome choice! I experienced warm and sunny without the intense summer humidity, so it was perfect for relaxing on the beaches (I loved lazing around on the quieter beaches of Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles Beach and North Beach).
I made the most as many fun events as I could, which this month included Easter events, such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, as well as Miami Beach Gay Pride, the Latin music Calle Ocho Music Festival, and the cultural Miami Film Festival.
I flew into Miami International Airport (MIA) and stayed for a lively week. Beyond the festivals, I also soaked up the rays on South Beach, explored the colorful Art Deco Historic District, kayaked through mangroves at Oleta River State Park, discovered vibrant street art in Wynwood, and went shopping in hipster-friendly Wynwood.

- Staying at the chic and trendy 4-star Goodtime Hotel – I loved the pastel pink upscale decor, the Insta-worthy swimming pool surrounded by luxury cabanas and the super-cute pink rotary dial phone in my guest room!
11. Caddo Lake, Texas and Louisiana
I discovered that this a hauntingly beautiful maze of bayous, sloughs, and cypress swamps made a unique April break!
During this month, the weather was comfortably mild, the cypress trees had begin to turn green, wildflowers were visible along the banks, and the swamp had comes alive with birds, frogs, and turtles, so it was the perfect time to paddle through the misty bayous, photograph the dreamlike scenery, and experience the lake’s haunting springtime beauty without the heat or bugs of summer! Bonus!
I loved that I could also join in spring events too, during this month there was the Caddo Lake Earth Day Festival which had interesting eco-tours and conservation talks, and the Annual Car Show and Swap Meet which drew classic car fans from across the region.
I drove 2.5 hours from Dallas and I based myself here for four extraordinary days. As well as the events, I took a boat tour across the serene, moss-draped waterways of Caddo Lake State Park, spotted herons, turtles, and pretty wildflowers out in bloom, and explored the historic charm of Jefferson which was home to quaint antique shops and scenic train rides.

- Taking the Pontoon Boat Tour with Captain Ron’s Swap Tours I loved listening to Ron’s quirky local stories, spotting turtles sunbathing on logs, and gazing at scary-looking alligators glide silently through the water!
12. Nantucket Island, Massachusetts
This charming and historic island is incredibly popular in the summer, so I loved being able to explore the gorgeous coastline, charming cobblestone streets, and quaint weathered gray-shingle cottages with far fewer crowds around during this quieter spring month.
It was also humpback, fin, and minke whale-watching season (which ran from March to mid-April) as well as daffodil season. The vibrant Daffodil Festival was celebrated at the end of the month with fun parades, picnics, and gorgeous flower displays and also the family-friendly Daffy Hat Pageant.
It was officially off-peak season, so I found the accommodation to be a lot cheaper than when I looked in the summer and although I have to admit, it wasn’t exactly warm, but I wrapped up and that made everything fine!
I took a two hour ferry ride from Hyannis and my spring stay lasted four nights. In between exploring the events, I found time to wander the cobblestone streets of the Historic District, explore the charming Sconset Village which had pretty rose-covered cottages, visit the interesting but sad Whaling Museum, stroll along Sconset Bluff Walk, and enjoy peaceful beach walks at Surfside and Madaket before the summer rush.

- Browsing the boutique stores – the chic fashion store Milly & Grace and the preppy Murray’s Toggery Shop were my favorites!
13. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
I vacationed in this lively coastal resort city during this month and found that the temperatures were pleasantly warm but without the summer crowds, so it was ideal for relaxing on the beach (although sadly it wasn’t quite warm enough to swim comfortably), strolling the lively boardwalk, and taking part in all the outdoor activities all without the peak summer prices!
I also got to enjoy a wide range of awesome events. During this month, I saw that there was a packed calender of events which included the Myrtle Beach Food Truck Festival, the interesting Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, the lively SOS Spring Safari Shag Dancing Festival and the fun Easter events, the Barefoot Bunny Hop and the family-friendly Easter Egg Hunt.
I fly into Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) and vacationed here for a gorgeous week. Beyond the events, I also squeezed in sunny beach days along the Grand Strand, riding the SkyWheel where I saw incredible coastal views, and gazed at blooming gardens at Brookgreen Gardens.

- Staying at the upscale Marina Inn at Grande Dunes – I loved the views of the marina and the Intracoastal Waterway, my spacious mini-suite and the impressive Har-Tru tennis courts.
- Checking out the legendary Bowery, a legendary honky-tonk bar and restaurant which dated back to 1944 – it was great to catch a live blues band and try their tasty Double D’s Dill Chips!
14. Blue Ridge Parkway National Park, North Carolina
I visited this stunning protected area during spring in April and it seriously wowed me! The weather was mild and ideal for hiking, there were budding trees and pretty wildflowers everywhere including trillium, rhododendrons, and mountain laurels and I got to explore and go for scenic drives without the heavy crowds of summer.
I also spotted more active wildlife during the warmer spring days – deer, black bears, and a variety of birds were out and about, which made me feel more connected to nature!
I was pleasantly surprised to find a packed calendar of events taking place this month including the Blue Ridge Music Trails Spring Concert Series which celebrated Appalachian heritage, the lively MerleFest in Wilkesboro which featured bluegrass and folk music, and the Burnsville Spring Fest with had crafts and local food galore!
I flew into Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) and based myself here for a wonderful five days. In between exploring the events, I found time to drive the blooming mountain stretches of the Parkway, hike to waterfalls, Linville Falls and Crabtree Falls, and enjoy superb panoramic views from Rough Ridge and Craggy Gardens.

- Visiting the Blue Ridge Music Center along the way – I especially loved the touchscreens where I could explore all the different banjo styles and the awesome sound booth!
15. Bar Harbor, Maine
This picturesque coastal town really wowed me on my April trip! I saw that the town had begun to wake from its winter quiet but with fewer crowds than the summer peak season. There was also early-season wildlife sightings, and flower-filled coastal landscapes, so it was ideal for peaceful hikes, and enjoying crisp ocean views before the summer tourists arrived.
Although the temperatures were cool, the off-season period meant that I found some great deals on accommodation, and the whole place had a much more relaxed and intimate local vibe.
It was also the start of whale-watching season along the Maine coast – so I kept an eye out for humpback, minke, and finback whales as they migrated through the nearby waters! There was also the worthy Bar Harbor Earth Day Celebration which had eco-activities and community cleanups and the cultural Spring Art Show at Island Artisans which featured local works.
I drove five hours northeast from Boston and based myself here for four days. I enjoyed peaceful hikes along Ocean Path and Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park, spotted early-season cute puffins and deer, took a scenic drive on the Park Loop Road, and explored Bar Harbor’s quiet waterfront, galleries, and cozy cafes.

- Trying the brussel sprouts smothered with truffle vinaigrette and the heavenly classic Maine blueberry pie at the nautical-themed Geddy’s Restaurant while gazing at Frenchman Bay from the large windows!
16. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
I found that April was an awesome month to explore this breathtaking wilderness area! This is because I saw because the snow had begun to melt, so it had revealed early-season hiking trails, the elk and moose had become more active in the valleys, the crowds were thankfully minimal.
I found that the snow-capped Teton Range had created a stunning and very photogenic contrast against the fresh greenery and thawing lakes, so it was a peaceful and picturesque time to explore the park.
I also loved the Jackson Hole Rendezvous Festival where I attended free live shows in Teton Village and Jackson Town Square. There was also the quirky Gaper Day which had funny retro ski outfits, and the Easter Egg Hunt in Jackson Town Square which was filled with family fun.
I flew into Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) and my spring stay lasted a nature-focused three nights. Events aside, I enjoyed wildlife watching in the thawing meadows near Moose and Antelope Flats, photographed the snow-capped Teton Range from Snake River Overlook, and explored the early-access trails at Taggart Lake.

- Staying at the gorgeous 4-star Jackson Lake Lodge located in the park – I loved the incredible mountain views, the rustic-chic decor and the Mural Room which had ten interestingly painted panels by artist Carl Roters.
17. Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs
The roads in this breathtaking wilderness area get crazily busy in summer, but I found April to be wonderfully peaceful with far more comfortable temperatures for longer hikes and watching the rock climbers – all without the crush of summer crowds.
I experienced lots of lovely spring sunshine which had highlighted the vibrant red rock formations against snow-capped Pikes Peak, and the pretty wildflowers had begun to bloom along the trails.
I drove 1.5-hours south from Denver and spent a full two days here. I hiked the scenic Central Garden Trail, photographed the iconic Balanced Rock and Kissing Camels, joined nature walks from the Visitor & Nature Center, and enjoyed the peaceful beauty of Garden of the Gods.

- Watching the brave and rock climbers at West Point Crack – it was incredible to see them tackle the vertical cracks and robust rock faces with their chalk-covered hands!

I drove two hours south from Los Angeles on the Pacific Coast Highway and based myself here for a wonderful short break. When I wasn’t checking out the events, I enjoyed the spring gardens and cultural events in Balboa Park, spotted super-cute seals at La Jolla Cove, explored the Gaslamp Quarter in peace, and relaxed on my favorite beaches, Coronado and Pacific Beach.

- Staying at the funky 4-star boutique The Pearl – I loved relaxing in the hammocks around the swimming pool, the heavenly Parachute Home bed and Finery x Casetta poplin bathrobes!
- Sipping on champagne raspberry mojitos at the chic rooftop bar the Altitude Sky Lounge – the Insta-worthy San Diego bay views the glass-walled balcony made it a very memorable night!
