The Best Things to do in Port Isaac: A 48 Hour Guide

“Tour finished, we headed off in search of some lunch. Port Isaac is known for its food, and we are known for our eating! We decided to scout out a ‘Cornish Picnic’, in the shape of pasties and crab sandwiches. First stop was Nicki B’s Pasty Shop, where after a few gestures from us Nicki convinced Poppy that her delicious cheese and onion pasty did not, in fact, contain any onion, and was therefore safe for her 6 year old tastebuds. Suffice to say we weren’t allowed a bit of hers!

We headed up the hill to Fresh From The Sea where we got crab sandwiches to go, and we took the whole lot with us on our way down to Port Gaverne, Port Isaac’s smaller and rockier little sister. We had planned to spend a few hours stand up paddle boarding, but although the weather was perfect for surfing it was less perfect for balancing Poppy on a board.

Instead we decided to explore Port Gaverne where Poppy loved collecting all of the different coloured rocks and sea glass on the beach. Climbing the steps built into the cliff, we explored the connecting bridge and admired the fishermen on the rocks until the wind blew us into the Port Gaverne Hotel to quench our thirst.

Later, we went on one of the most spectacular dog walks that I can remember. Poppy practiced standing still to spot rabbits in the gorse, we saw cormorants diving for fish, not to mention the stunning scenery and crashing waves – it was magic!

Back at Beehive Cottage, we had a quick turnaround before heading out for dinner – pizza at The Angry Anchovy. This was a short 5 minute walk up the hill. We were immediately greeted with smiling faces and the magical words ‘would you like complimentary olives and breadsticks?’ Our waitress couldn’t have been friendlier, and the food was perfect. We rounded the meal off with affogato and a chocolate bombe – if you like pizza, this is a must visit!”
