This Tassie shack is the holiday home of our dreams
Tassie shacks have evolved from the higgledy-piggledy shanties on the beach that they used to be. Now, an ultra-luxurious waterfront shack in Tasmania is up for sale – and it could be the holiday home of your dreams.
Shack culture is a massive part of Tasmania. They started popping up on the beaches of the Apple Isle in the post-war era, mostly cobbled together from scrap material with no electricity or plumbing. Although modern iterations of beach shacks contain plenty more creature comforts, they still retain a similar simplicity, quietude and slow pace of life to their post-war counterparts. One ultra-luxe shack perched on the shoreline of Deep Bay (just a seven-minute drive from Cygnet and around an hour from Hobart) is currently up for grabs, meaning that you could nab a slice of paradise to call your very own.

24 Glovers Road, Deep Bay, has drawn collective wanderlust after it was published to Instagram by @tasmanian_shacklife, an account run by self-professed shack connoisseur Naomi Hume, who photographs these unique shelters to document them, curates shack accommodation for short-stays, and shares listings of shacks for sale.

24 Glovers Road is an exquisite shack designed with sleek mid-century flair, featuring local craftsmanship and materials. You’ll find Tasmanian oak cabinetry, a kitchen bench of native sassafras and a spotted gum facade, nodding to the natural surroundings of the beautiful 847m² property. It’s self-sufficient, with 20,000-litre water tanks and an EV charger. The cherry on top? A freestanding bath on the deck outside that overlooks the incredible view of the bay. It may be the perfect holiday home, but it’s hard to imagine ever wanting to leave.
