16 of the best hotels in Dublin
It has already been mentioned that Dublin is steeped in history, but there aren’t many hotels here (or maybe anywhere in the world) where you can see where the laws of the land were founded. The fact that the Constitution Room lies at the heart of the Shelbourne encapsulates its character: heritage, classic, classy, and prestigious.
On the northern edge of St Stephen’s green, you’ll be immediately greeted by a doorman, and then many, many flowers… The Shelbourne has four in-house florists who keep the hotel constantly in bloom, uplifting the spirits whatever the seasons may be doing to the fair city outside. The tram is just around the corner, and the Aircoach bus is a two minute walk away.
The aforementioned Constitution Room is where the Irish Constitution was signed in 1922, still housing the chair and table that were used at this historic moment. The room is regularly hired, but do be sure to ask if you can have a nosey – the courteous staff are only too happy to help… with anything, really.
There’s an 18m swimming pool, sauna, steam room, a gym which offers classes, and a lavish spa with a view over St Stephen’s Green. There are three excellent bars including the speakeasy-style Horseshoe, and the much loved, sumptuous, Saddle Room restaurant.
