25 best restaurants in Glasgow, from fine dining to cheap eats
Travelling can take its toll on anyone’s bank balance. These cheap eats in Glasgow are all undeniably delicious but won’t make your eyes widen too far when you’re served the bill. Plus, many are BYOB too, presenting a further scenario for saving.
Errol’s Hot Pizza
Best for: World-class pizza
Errol’s feels deliciously lived in with a bit of a dive bar vibe brought to life through random memorabilia and artworks covering every surface. The food is why you’re here, though, and that is some of the best pizza in Glasgow. It’s thin and crispy and comes with tried and tested favourite topping combinations like a classic margarita or an Italian sausage and white onion. There are a couple of sides to add on, including a salad that’s more Parmesan shavings than vegetable and a burrata of the day. Unusually, Errol’s is BYOB with corkage set at a very reasonable £2.50, making this a great value option.

Wee Lochan Kitchen
Best for: Affordable celebratory meals
This is one of those restaurants you could so very easily miss, being a little off the beaten track and somehow managing to stay under the radar when it comes to social media and online lists. It’s worth making your way down to Scotstoun to give it a go, though, as it’s one of the best affordable restaurants in Glasgow. It’s tiny, with just a small handful of tables that get well booked up in advance, but if you manage to secure a spot the sweet team will ensure you’re well cared for. Thing smart bistro-style food with excellent sauces, good ingredients and hearty portion sizes. Think gastropub combos like roast chicken with dauphinoise or steak with a shallot puree, chips and peppercorn sauce. There’s a BYOB policy too, which always helps with budgeting.

Ranjit’s Kitchen
Best for: Casual dining
Ranjit Kaur’s Southside restaurant is an extension of her home kitchen. She and her family serve delicious, slow-cooked Punjabi vegetable curries and dals, homemade paneer, stuffed parathas and the city’s best sweets – bar none. Diners eat side-by-side at communal tables framed by bright walls painted in traditional Phulkari patterns. The homey atmosphere, affordable pricing and straightforward menu have earned it a cult following.

The Real Wan
Best for: Noodles and dumplings
The Real Wan has become a Southside institution thanks to its unique South West Chinese offering. That means hearty plates of soft, steaming dumplings liberally seasoned and served with a deep dipping sauce as well as bowls of chewy noodles, spicy tofu and rice dishes. Many plates have a good hit of something punchy, whether that’s the tang of spring onions, the rich depth of shiitake mushrooms, funky fermented chilli sauces or the numbing power of Szechuan pepper. With its intimate dining space, booking is recommended and it’s BYOB too. Corkage is set at £2.50, so perfect if you’re looking for a night out without a bill that’s going to break the £20 mark per person.
