This is officially the best country for Brits to retire in

After decades putting down roots, establishing careers and raising families in the UK, there’s an increasing number of retirees following the same trend – upping sticks and settling into later life overseas. Moving abroad to enjoy the freedom retirement offers is by no means a new concept but, with more families spread across the UK and further afield, and the convenience of budget flights and cross-channel train routes, it’s a more popular choice than ever before.

However, there’s no shortage of things to consider before setting up life in a different country and becoming part of a new community. Some destinations are much better set up than others to welcome Brits bidding farewell to their career. The cost of living, climate, access to high-quality healthcare, and visa and residency requirements differ significantly from country to country, making the process feel too daunting for some who crave a change.

10. Italy

History, art, exceptional food and wine – you know the drill. Italy has fascinated Brits for centuries, each of us flocking to our preferred corner for some R&R and a well-deserved vitamin D top-up. However, older Brits are sticking around. One of the main draws is Italy’s affordability, especially in regions like Abruzzo and Puglia, where monthly expenses are significantly lower than those back home. Rental prices, especially in more rural areas, are cheaper than in the UK, while a Golden Visa system grants residency through a minimum investment requirement of €250,000.
