The best all-inclusive resorts in Europe for families
After an extensive refurbishment and redevelopment in 2018, Amada Colossos reopened with its five-star accreditation as a sleek, modern resort catering to families and couples across its sprawling residence just outside of Rhodes’ Old Town. The hotel offers a multi-tier all-inclusive program (Gold, Diamond, and Elite), allowing guests to upgrade to include additional restaurants, from the Greek Taverna (with live music and lobster nights) to the wood-oven seaside restaurant, Enalia. This is a great option for groups or multi-generational holidays, with its relaxation-focused setting, multiple restaurants and bars, pool, spa, gym, and almost-private beach, plus its ideal positioning for day trips around the island, but it’s the activities and entertainment for children that really make this a standout. On the other side of the resort (away from the quieter beach and adults-only pool areas) is its private waterpark – a failsafe crowd-pleaser for both kids and big kids. There is a section for toddlers, a lazy river, teen-friendly tube slides, and another pool, plus a snack bar serving pizza and hot dogs to keep the family going. Come sundown, there is live entertainment in the outdoor arena, with face painting, kids discos, and a roster of energetic performers to engage children under 10 (and tire them out before bedtime).
There are almost 700 rooms (699 to be exact, one room is held for the owner), all in calming neutral colour palettes and with spacious bathrooms, some with sea views or swim-up pools, and there are family suites with a separate room with twin beds (all plush and super comfy). The room to book is the On The Beach villa, which has a second bedroom upstairs, a private pool and jacuzzi, and an uninterrupted view across the coast as well as access to one of the private beach Gazebos (available to book separately for non-villa guests, and highly recommended). Throughout the resort, standards are impeccably high, staff are friendly and professional, towels are fluffy, and cleanliness is paramount, so there are no poolside plasters or a whiff of chlorine. This is an all-singing, all-dancing family resort, with parents firmly in mind. Charlotte Davey
