12 spring holidays Traveller editors swear by: from Mexico’s sprawling lagoons to a storybook Greek beach town

As a March baby, the second Christmas is over,I am on the hunt for the best locations to escape to for my birthday. Not the easiest task – Spring can be temperamental weather-wise – but Mallorca doesn’t miss. Palma is the perfect seaside capital for wandering labyrinthine streets and eating delicious cuisine in cobbled courtyards under the shadow of the Gothic cathedral, rain or shine, but it’s often the latter. This is the place to enjoy a glass of rosé, al fresco, with the sun warming your face and people-watching under red umbrellas. A winding 30-minute drive from Palma to the mountains brings you to the beautiful hillside town of Valldemossa for rolling countryside, full of orangeries and olive groves.

Where to stay: In Palma, stay in one of 16 rooms at the boutique Can Allomar, a central hideout overlooking the Passeig del Born. For escaping to the mountains, stay at Valldemossa Hotel, where you’ll be awoken by birdsong, cocooned in the most luxurious bedding while surrounded by exquisite natural views.

After months of bleak wintery greyness in London, I’m craving an antidote in colour, sunshine and a sense of fun – all things Miami has in great supply. I’m looking forward to long afternoons on the beach, salty swims, getting lost among pretty Art Deco streets and eating my way through as much Latin street food as possible. I’m away for a week, so I’m splitting my time between two boutique hotels, both with a distinctly different vibe, for some proper R&R between all the beach walks and gallery hopping.

Where to stay: First Maison Felix, an elegant Miami Beach hideaway pairing a Mediterranean-leaning interior with mid-century glamour – think leafy courtyards, soft coastal tones and a home-away-from-home feel. It’s a contrast to my other stop, Le Particulier Miami, which is a newly opened Art Deco gem that feels more Miami proper. It leans fully into the city’s trademark playful energy with pastel interiors, tropical details and an extraverted rhythm.
