The Comme des Fuckdown cap is making an official comeback
If you need any more confirmation that the 2010s are back, just take a look at your Instagram feed. McQueen skull scarves are back on the runway, TikTok is obsessed with Isabel Marant wedged sneakers and woman-of-the-moment Addison Rae is re-enacting Spring Breakers on stage at The Box. The 2010s revival has been underway for a good few years, but it was ramped up even further this week when we found out that the iconic Comme des Fuckdown fitted cap was making a comeback. Though its cropped up countless times since its 2010s heyday (most recently on the Vaquera runway) this week marks its official return, as OG designer Russ Karablin is back on board rereleasing the design.
Popularised in 2012 by A$AP Mob members like Rocky and Nast, the 2010s icon – a playful riff on Comme des Garçons – is returning thanks to US label Alice Hollywood, who are teaming up with Karablin’s streetwear brand SSUR. The collaboration is a full circle moment for both brands – Alice Hollywood designer Shane Gonzales worked at SSUR during the peak of the craze, packing and shipping Comme des Fuckdown hat as a 17-year-old intern. “That internship was my first window into the world I dreamed of being part of,” Gonzales said in a statement. “Russ was a mentor to me and gave me a shot when I knew nothing about the industry. Without that opportunity, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
