Kruger enforces gate quotas during school holidays

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that day visitor access to the Kruger National Park (KNP) will be subject to strict gate quotas over the June/July school holidays, from Saturday 28 June to Monday 21 July 2025.

The park expects a sharp increase in footfall as families take advantage of the winter break to enjoy time in nature.

To manage congestion and maintain safety, visitors are strongly encouraged to book online in advance and adhere to scheduled entry slots:

Time slot 1: 06:00 to 08:00

Time slot 2: 08:00 to 10:00

Time slot 3: 10:00 onwards

Increased law enforcement and traffic control will be in effect throughout the holiday period. Speeding, after-hours driving and any form of reckless behaviour will be closely monitored.

According to SANParks, “plans for increased visibility of both traffic officials and visitor management personnel… are being implemented.”

Visitors are urged to cooperate fully with on-duty officials and report any misconduct at the gate or via the emergency contact number listed on their entry permit.

Number plate checks will be strictly enforced. Motorists arriving with temporary registration plates will be required to present supporting documentation. Vehicles without number plates will be denied access at all park gates. If found inside the park, such vehicles will be impounded and the driver will be charged under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (Act No. 57 of 2003).

Park rangers, crime investigation units, protection services, and the South African National Defence Force will be patrolling to ensure compliance.

Tourists are also reminded not to tamper with or remove No Entry signs, as this behaviour could pose a serious safety risk to others.

SANParks encourages visitors to plan ahead, allow ample travel time, and make use of reliable sources such as camp receptions or official social media channels for up-to-date information on road closures or gate operations.
