Spirit Airlines Is Launching New Nonstop Flights From Fort Lauderdale to the Cayman Islands

You land, step off the plane, and in minutes you’re feeling it — the warmth, the light, the unmistakable calm that comes with arriving in Grand Cayman. And now, getting there is even easier.

This December, Spirit Airlines is bringing back its nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman, part of a strategic effort to expand airlift from Florida to the Cayman Islands. Starting Dec. 4, 2025, flights will operate three times a week — Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays — connecting South Florida with one of the most sought-after destinations in the region.

It’s a meaningful addition — not just for convenience, but for the broader growth of Cayman tourism. The return of the route follows high-level meetings between Spirit Airlines and the Cayman Islands Airports Authority, facilitated during the CAPA Airline Leader Summit held earlier this year at the Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, Caribbean Journal has learned.

A Destination That Keeps Getting Stronger

With fall and winter demand already trending upward, the timing of this new flight couldn’t be better. For travelers in Florida — and across Spirit’s broader network — it means faster access to the Cayman Islands’ signature experiences: the white sands of Seven Mile Beach, the vivid coral gardens of Stingray City, the quiet charm of Cayman Brac, and the untouched beauty of Little Cayman.

And then there’s the food. Known as a Culinary Capital of the Caribbean, the Cayman Islands offer everything from Michelin-level restaurants (including one by Eric Ripert himself that recently got a makeover)  to open-air fish fry spots, all backed by the flavors of the sea and the warmth of Caymanian hospitality.

The Cayman Islands has been having a moment, with surging arrivals this year and a wave of new hotels, too.

Three Islands. One Easy Flight.

“We are pleased to welcome Spirit Airlines to the Cayman Islands,” said the Hon. Gary Rutty, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Trade Development. “Spirit has distinguished itself with its excellent service and value for money.”

For the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, led by Director Rosa Harris, the new route is a major win for connectivity — and for travelers. “This flight demonstrates the confidence that the airline has in the Cayman Islands as a destination which will drive demand for tickets,” Harris said. “We look forward to a growth in visitor arrivals from this new flight.”

It also opens up the beloved sister islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, accessed via regular daily service on national carrier Cayman Airways, with easy connections from the Spirit flight.

A New Way to Get to the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean

As winter approaches and the search begins for sun-drenched getaways, the Cayman Islands are poised to deliver — with luxury resorts, quiet beaches, vibrant marine life, and that rare balance of high-end and laid-back. Now, for travelers from Fort Lauderdale and beyond, the journey just got a little smoother.

What the new Spirit Flights Cost

You can already book the service. Flights start as low as $228.83 roundtrip, according to our analysis of Spirit’s booking engine. That price goes up depending on the service class you want, including the company’s new premium economy fare.
