Princess Cruises’ New Star Princess Just Completed Sea Trials

The second Sphere-Class ship has passed a key test in the Adriatic and is now just weeks away from welcoming guests.

The next chapter in Princess Cruises’ fleet expansion is almost here. Star Princess, the line’s second Sphere-Class ship and one of the most advanced vessels in its history, has successfully completed its sea trials in the Adriatic Sea. The milestone keeps the LNG-powered ship on schedule for its maiden voyage on Oct. 4.

Built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, Star Princess spent August 9–12 undergoing a full series of performance tests, from propulsion and steering to navigation systems. At 177,800 gross tons and with capacity for 4,300 guests, she matches her sister ship Sun Princess in size and design — but adds her own slate of new experiences and entertainment.

LNG Power and Precision Maneuvering

As Princess Cruises’ second ship powered by liquefied natural gas, Star Princess represents another step in the company’s emissions reduction strategy. She’s equipped with twin Azipod propulsion units, capable of delivering 360-degree thrust in both directions, and four large controllable pitch bow thrusters for precise maneuvering.

The trials were overseen by Captain Gennaro Arma, a 27-year Princess veteran who leads the Sphere-Class newbuild site team and will helm the vessel when she enters service. “I’m extremely impressed with the ship’s navigation capabilities and maneuverability,” Arma said. “With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I can’t wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall.”

Onboard Design and Accommodations

When she launches, Star Princess will feature more than 1,500 balcony staterooms — giving most guests the option to take in the Mediterranean from the privacy of their own space. The ship’s accommodations include Sanctuary Collection suites and mini-suites, which come with exclusive amenities and dedicated lounges.

Guests will find 30 dining and bar venues, along with signature Princess experiences like The Dome, a multi-level relaxation and entertainment space; The Arena, the line’s most technologically advanced theater; and The Piazza, a sweeping glass-walled atrium that serves as the architectural centerpiece of the ship.

A Unique Collaboration at Sea

One of Star Princess’ most distinctive offerings will be Spellbound by Magic Castle, a speakeasy-style venue developed with the famed Hollywood Magic Castle. Blending cocktails, close-up illusions, and immersive décor, it’s designed to bring an element of surprise to the ship’s nightlife.

When Is It Coming to the Caribbean?

Star Princess is headed to the Caribbean in the fall of 2026, with its first cruise to the region starting on Oct. 20 out of Fort Lauderdale. That cruise is already bookable, with rates starting at $559 per person, according to the Princess booking engine.
