Citta’ Matsuri Festival 2025, Sep 13–Sep 15, 2025
La Cittadella is celebrating the 20th edition of its annual festival. The three-night event fuses Japanese matsuri traditions with international flair.
What to expect
The festival’s yoichi night market will feature over 60 stalls highlighting Japanese festival staples and overseas offerings. Okinawan squid-ink yakisoba, Hakata gyoza, and Asakusa karaage present elevated takes on festival favourites.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese phở, gluten-free Mexican tacos, and Indian biryani are just some of the international options. If you’re feeling thirsty, stalls will be pouring a range of craft beer and gin. Or you can relax at the festival tavern in the central fountain plaza.
Each night, a new program of performances will take over the main stage. Expect to see Japanese taiko drums and traditional awa-odori dance as well as Balinese gamelan, African djembe, and avant-garde theater. The main stage’s pyrotechnics have become a highlight of the festival, and the rotating roster of entertainment offers something new on each visit.
Interactive workshops invite visitors to get crafty, making uchiwa fans and lanterns using bamboo and washi paper. It wouldn’t be a summer matsuri without festival games, and shooting galleries and fishing stalls will be set up to keep you occupied.
How to get there
La Cittadella is a 5-minute walk from JR Kawasaki Station or a 7-minute walk from Keikyū Kawasaki Station.
