Avelo Is Adding New Flights to Punta Cana and Puerto Rico
Avelo Airlines is expanding its footprint in the Caribbean this winter, with new nonstop routes from its North Carolina bases to San Juan and Punta Cana.
It’s part of a big expansion for the carrier that has been focused on the Caribbean, adding new routes to typically underserved air markets in the US, from the mid-Atlantic to New England cities like New Haven.
From Charlotte’s Concord-Padgett Regional Airport, Avelo will begin service to San Juan, Puerto Rico on Oct. 22, operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The new route gives travelers in the Charlotte region a direct link to Puerto Rico’s vibrant capital, with its colorful streets, historic forts, and lively food scene.
At the same time, the carrier is adding a new leisure option from Coastal Carolina’s Wilmington International Airport. Beginning Dec. 24.
Avelo will launch nonstop flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, also flying twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Punta Cana is one of the Caribbean’s most popular all-inclusive destinations, home to white sand beaches and resorts tailored to both couples and families. (Here’s our guide to the destination’s all-inclusives).
With these launches, Avelo will serve eight nonstop destinations from Concord and 17 from Wilmington, furthering its strategy of connecting secondary U.S. airports with high-demand leisure markets.
