Aromi
Aromi
This family-run Sicilian eatery turns out sourdough pizzas, focaccia piled high with fresh toppings, and buttery biscuits that melt on the tongue. With several locations across town, each counter is a tempting display of what’s just come out of the oven. At their Peas Hill outpost, you’ll also find a gelato bar with a tempting range of freshly-churned flavours.

The best cafés in Cambridge
Hot Numbers
This local roastery has two coffee shops in Cambridge: the first sits across from The Fitzwilliam Museum, where the city’s art buffs slip in post-exhibit for expertly poured flat whites (this location also features a secret garden out the back). Further from the town centre, there’s plenty more space to sprawl out at their Gwydir Street spot (housed in a former brewery), where you can tuck into hefty pancake stacks and sweetcorn fritters.

Fitzbillies
It’s not a visit to Cambridge without swinging by the city’s most famous tearoom, Fitzbillies. Their original outpost on Trumpington Street is all cosy tables and low-slung beams, with a casual cafe next door for takeaway coffees and quick lunches. We recommend sitting in for the full afternoon tea experience, where you’ll be plied with endless macarons, cake slices, and scones. Naturally, Fitzbillies’ famous Chelsea buns – syrup-laden and sticky enough to glue your fingers together – are also a must-try.

Stir
Close to the River Cam, where the university’s boathouses straddle the riverbank, Stir is an all-day brunch spot and bakery that’s become something of a hub for locals. Head to their Chesterton Road location on any given morning, and you’ll rub shoulders with rowers fresh from their training, mums on the school run, and students tapping away on laptops. Tuck into loaded bagels and full fry-ups before browsing the tempting pastry counter at the adjoining bakery.
