Best travel wash bags to pack on your next trip in 2025

As a team that’s constantly travelling around the world, our editors have strong opinions when it comes to wash bags. We’re sticklers for a quality suitcase, organised packing cubes for hand luggage, and a durable, good-size wash bag. The tricky part is that almost every accessory brand, hotel, and airline now has a wash bag. Much like the mass of branded tote bags out there, the average bag tends to be a printed canvas zip-up pouch that can look nice but isn’t that practical when it comes to travelling. In our experience, the best way to choose the right travel wash bag depends on the kind of trip you’re set to take.

For short trips: I love the ease of a clear wash bag for stashing all of your essentials. Not only is it easy to find everything, but if you’re travelling with only carry on luggage, a clear case avoids the need to unpack and repack your items into one of those plastic sleeves when going through security at the airport.

For long trips: Whether you’re in one place for a long time or travelling around multiple destinations, hanging wash bags offer the feel of unpacking without having to actually unpack all of your products. Our senior audience development manager, Amber Port, loves the bathroom extra counter space that a hanging wash bag gives you and finds that the different compartments make organising easy.

For beauty fans: Regardless of the length of your trip, if you’re not one for travelling light consider investing in a cosmetic case, which are larger than your average wash bag and full of compartments and pouches to keep everything organised.

The best clear wash bags

Muji clear toiletry bag

Why we like it: There is a treasure trove of organisational gems inside every Muji store – for your lounge, bedroom, bathroom and now your suitcase. This medium clear pouch should fit all of your 100ml liquids for the airport scanners, so you don’t have to contend with the clear bags, which tediously persist in usage at the odd airport, so it’s a good idea to continue to be prepared for now.

Horizn Studios Liquids Bag

Despite all the rumours, the 100ml liquids rule seems to be going nowhere. This clear bag from one of our best luggage brands, Horizn Studios, will fit all your minis, complies with airport regulations and looks very smart while it does it. It’s made from all-vegan materials and comes with a choice of four trims.

M&S Clear Makeup Bag Set

I’ve had one of these sets for years and I’m not sure what I’d do without it now. The largest bag is huge, fitting in plenty of full-size products, which is great when I’m travelling with a check-in case. The medium bag is a great makeup container and easy to clean if it gets grotty, thanks to the wipe-clean plastic outer. The smallest makes a good pouch to corral hand cream, lip balm and tissues, so they don’t roll around in your handbag. At under £20, it’s a real bargain, too.

Medium travel bag

Why we like it: If you’re travelling for more than a couple of days, I use the Space NK Large Travel Bags or Medium Travel Bags. They are brilliant for organising your wares into categories, and because they’re clear, it’s easy to find things fast. Anita Bhagwandas

Classic wash bags

Fjallraven Kanken toiletry bag

Why we like it: It’s rare to walk down any high street in London without spotting one of Fjallraven’s minimal backpacks, which are available in a Scandi-cool array of dusty neutrals and brighter colours alike. Now you can have a washbag to match, in the same durable waxed fabric, albeit in a more restrained shade range. This is a big washbag with ample room for all your bottles for trips of up to two weeks, with two roomy compartments each with multiple inner pockets for all your makeup, grooming gear, hair products and toiletries.

Antler Essential wash bag

Why we like it: British company Antler is one of our best luggage brands, with its well-priced suitcases and bags making it to the top of our guides again and again. This svelte option is a smaller bag, ready for overnighters and camping getaways where your full makeup kit need not apply. It’s made from 100 per cent recycled fabric, with a wipe-clean lining for easy clean up in case of spills. We also love how, despite its small size, it has three separate compartments inside for toiletries, skincare and cosmetics, plus a front pocket for hair ties or small essentials. A side strap means you can attach it to the outside of your bag to save space inside, and doubles as a hanging loop.

Béis The Dopp Kit

We’re big fans of Beis’s Mary Poppins-esque weekender bag, and its washbag has the same clever design, featuring a separate bottom compartment with a water-resistant lining. It has a hanging loop to keep it off cluttered sides and a waterproof inner pocket to keep your toothbrush clean and away from the rest of your bottles. There are matching vanity pouches and it comes in all of Beis’s signature colourways.

H&M Large two-tiered wash bag

Why we like it: This is one of the roomier wash bags we rate, so it should be all you need to keep your personal care items safe throughout trips of up to two weeks. There are separate compartments for your makeup and skincare, along with additional pockets for brushes. Choose from four colours, or there’s also a clear version. At under £20, it’s a steal – and it would make a great gift for a frequent traveller.

Cult Beauty Travel Organiser

Why we like it: Because of the pockets. This sleek, unobtrusive wash bag packs in six side pockets, a separate hidden compartment and two main sections for bulkier products, making it as easy as can be to organise all your products abroad. A handle makes it easy to tote from suitcase to bathroom, and the PVC outer can be easily refreshed with a quick wipe down if needed.

Hanging wash bags

Antler Chelsea hanging wash bag

Why we like it: We like this wash bag’s good looks and that it matches Antler’s popular Chelsea range of bags – the brand’s Chelsea overnighter has accompanied us on many short hops (and even some full weekends away). The best bit, however, is the removable water-resistant compartment: keep your liquids in here and sling them straight into your airport scanner tray when you hit security – possibly the most faff-free way to do it we’ve seen.

Monos Metro Hanging Toiletry Case

Why we like it: I fit a week’s worth of makeup and skincare with room to spare in this Mary Poppins-esque washbag on a recent trip – and the shape fits snugly into a corner of your case. I like that it opens out flat, banishing the need to rummage, and there are two interior pockets for hair ties and little bits and bobs. Good to know? I accidentally spilled something inside the bag and was nervous to put it through the washing machine, but it came out good-as-new – I appreciate this, given it’s on the pricier side. Charley Ward

Away Hanging Toiletry Bag

Why we like it: I recently took this on a two week trip where I stayed at three different hotels. I was travelling with my family and this made storing and organising all of our bathroom items a breeze. I particularly loved the bottom compartment which can be completely detached and has a sheer top so you can store all of your in-flight essentials and take it through security and onto the flight. Very clever. Lauren Burvill

Stackers hanging wash bag

Why we love it: While it’s slightly more compact that the standard hanging wash bag, this is one of the few I’ve found that actually looks nice while still offering a decent amount of space and pockets. It also comes with a clear removable wash bag too that you can take on the flight. Lauren Burvill

Cosmetic cases

Anya Hindmarch logo vanity kit

Why we like it: Part of British heritage brand Anya Hindmarch’s beloved Logo range, this very spacious vanity kit will keep all your grooming and beauty essentials safe and sorted both home and away – and very stylishly so. It’s not one to sling in your carry-on as it is very large (and gets heavy when full), but for longer, or more luxurious, trips where you want to bring all your gear, this is a fabulous option to pack in your checked case. It’s beautiful, fits my entire makeup, skincare and brush collection, and wins compliments everywhere I take it. It’s an investment piece, but with smart leather finishes, eco-nylon shell, an impressive build quality and dressing table-worthy looks, it’s worth the initial cost.

Liberty Vanity Case

Who doesn’t love a Liberty print? This beautiful piece showcases a contemporary reimagining of a classic, woven from linen-cotton and screenprinted in Italy. There’s a separate inner container for small items and valuables and, with its hardwearing outer coating, it’ll stay in tiptop shape for years to come.

Steamline Vanity Case

Why we like it: Fans of Steamline’s vintage luggage pieces can complete their set with the brand’s sweet little vanity case. It’s on the pricier side, but what other wash bag doubles up as a handbag? Inside there’s a roomy main compartment for all your bits and pieces, along with a mesh bag to keep jewellery and hair ties easily to hand. This case can be attached to your suitcase with the passthrough band too – good for if you’re using it as an underseat cabin bag.
