Best Victoria Road Trips | Dream by Luxury Escapes
Whether winding along the Great Ocean Road, hopping between wineries in the Yarra Valley, trailing dirt roads in the King Valley or venturing into the jagged peaks of the Grampians, Victoria’s road trip routes were made for adventure.
No matter where you’re headed, the all-terrain Land Rover Discovery is the perfect travel partner; equipped to handle every twist in the road and make the journey just as enjoyable as the destination.
Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula is the perfect Victorian road trip destination for surf days and hot springs adventures – and with roof rails for surfboards and bikes, there’s no better set of wheels to get you there than the Land Rover Discovery.
Begin your journey at Alba Thermal Springs & Spa in Fingal, home to geothermal bathing pools and spa treatments. From there, wind inland to Red Hill and Flinders, known for wineries, gourmet products and rolling vineyards. Foxeys Hangout and Red Hill Candle Co are favourites, and tastings at Red Hill Estate, Flinders Truffles and Main Ridge Dairy don’t disappoint.
Cruise to the historic seaside village of Sorrento, where chic cafes, boutiques and bay views await. Head south to the cliffs of Cape Schanck Lighthouse for breathtaking views, then round off your trip with a wander through Point Nepean National Park.
Luxury Escapes recently teamed up with Land Rover Discovery and Olympia Valance for the ultimate city-to-coast road trip in Victoria. Watch the second episode to follow along as Olympia makes the drive down to the Mornington Peninsula from Melbourne, and check out the third episode for more itinerary inspiration.
Recommended duration: Two to three days.
The Grampians
Roughly a three-hour drive northwest of Melbourne CBD is one of Victoria’s most visually spectacular regions, the Grampians. Rich in Aboriginal significance, this ancient site, shaped by nature over millions of years, wows with dramatic sandstone peaks and wildflowers. Your first stop, Halls Gap, is a charming town nestled between towering mountains. Look for echidnas and wallabies and spend days hiking to waterfalls.
Check out Reeds Lookout, Boroka Lookout and MacKenzie Falls, then pop into boutique cellar doors like Fallen Giants, Pomonal Estate or Mount Langi Ghiran. The Land Rover Discovery’s all-terrain technology and generous interiors (read: plenty of room for hiking boots and poles) are ideal for this choose-your-own-adventure-style drive, no matter if you’re travelling with your partner, your four-legged best friend or the whole family.
Just south sits Brambuk the National Park & Cultural Centre – an award-winning destination offering meaningful opportunities to connect with the region’s Indigenous community, the Jadawadjali and Djab Wurrung People. Make the most of wood-fired pizza and regional wines at Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co., or for something sweet, stop by Coolas Ice Creamery.
Recommended duration: Three to four days.
Yarra Valley

In Victoria’s famous wine country, east of Melbourne’s CBD, make Healesville Sanctuary, a bushland haven for Australian wildlife, your first stop and visit koalas, kangaroos and dingos. Drive past vine-covered hills to Chandon Australia, where premium sparkling wines pair perfectly with a leisurely lunch.
Park at the award-winning Four Pillars Gin Distillery for a tasting flight. Art lovers should detour to TarraWarra Museum of Art, where contemporary and modern pieces celebrate Australian art and architecture. Experience farmhouse charm at Yarra Valley Dairy, with delicious creamy cheeses worth trying. Between destinations, the Land Rover Discovery’s wireless phone charging ensures you stay connected, so you can share every scenic stop and gourmet moment with those back home. The spacious boot ensures you have plenty of room for any take-home souvenirs.
Recommended duration: One to two days.
High Country
Framed by tree-lined streets and mountain views, the picturesque village of Bright is a haven for cyclists and nature lovers, with standout dining to match. Think pub classics at Bright Brewery, top-notch Italian at Tigre Vita (within Alpine Hotel Bright) and modern comfort food at Tomahawks.
From there, Mount Buffalo National Park’s winding alpine roads and forest tracks lead to panoramic lookouts, waterfalls and rewarding hikes – navigated with ease thanks to the Land Rover Discovery’s hill descent control. The gold rush town of Beechworth is worth a visit, with its historic streets and, of course, the famous pastries of Beechworth Bakery.
Head to King Valley, one of Australia’s premier wine regions. Cellar doors like Pizzini Wines, Dal Zotto Wines and Politini Wines bring hearty hospitality after a windy drive through dirt roads. Finish your trip in the charming town of Mansfield, with time spent at nearby Mount Buller for skiing in winter and hikes in summer.
Recommended duration: Five to seven days.
