First Japan Cherry Blossom Forecast Released for 2026
Just as we were getting into the Christmas markets and winter illuminations, the first sakura forecast for 2026 came out. We aren’t sure we’re ready, but here’s what it’s looking like for spring next year.
Tokyo is expected to start flowering around March 19, with full bloom on March 26 in 2026. Meanwhile, Kyoto is forecast to start flowering around March 24, with full bloom on March 31. Dates for most parts of Japan are slightly earlier than average, so far.

The much-loved Japan Meteorological Corporation releases forecasts for cherry blossoms (and autumn leaves) every year, updating them regularly as more data becomes available. Their sakura forecasts cover approximately 1,000 spots around the country. The next forecast is expected to be released on January 8, 2026.
