Marriott Just Opened Its New $160M W All-Inclusive Resort in Punta Cana

The beaches. The buzz. The first-ever W all-inclusive. A new chapter in Punta Cana’s tourism story began this week with the grand opening of the W Punta Cana Adult All-Inclusive, a $160 million resort developed by Grupo Puntacana, Marriott International and Mac Hotels.

The property had already been welcoming guests since earlier this summer.

It’s the first W Hotels property in the world to embrace an all-inclusive, adults-only model — a clear sign of how fast the Dominican Republic is moving up the global luxury tourism ladder — and how deeply Marriott is getting into the all-inclusive space.

Presidential Endorsement

Dominican President Luis Abinader headlined the ribbon-cutting ceremony, calling the country “the best place in Latin America to invest.” He reminded attendees that the project broke ground at the height of the pandemic, framing its opening as a symbol of long-term investor confidence.

Abinader also pointed to more than 15,000 hotel rooms currently under development nationwide, with 6,000 set to open this year, underscoring tourism’s growing role in the national economy.

A New Category for Punta Cana

The property, located in Uvero Alto, features 340 rooms and suites, twelve restaurants, and an AWAY Spa designed exclusively for adults. It brings the W brand’s signature energy — from its sleek design to its social spaces — into the all-inclusive market for the first time.

“This hotel will revolutionize Punta Cana,” said Frank Elías Rainieri, CEO of Grupo Puntacana (one of the most important hoteliers in the region), calling it a transformative moment for the destination’s luxury positioning and local economic impact.

Inside the Resort

W Punta Cana is built around the idea of experience as the centerpiece. The resort’s design leans into W’s signature mix of bold modernism and a strong sense of place, with clean lines, bright patterns and local materials woven throughout. Rooms and suites feature terraces, large walk-in showers, and floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the Caribbean Sea. The Living Room bar and lounge — a signature of the non-all-inclusive Ws — acts as the heartbeat of the resort, transitioning from a laid-back daytime hangout to a high-energy nighttime space with DJ sets and signature cocktails.

The culinary program is unusually ambitious for an all-inclusive. The resort’s food hall concept, Trade Market, offers interactive stations and global flavors that feel more like an urban market than a resort buffet. Scena is the property’s most elevated dining room, centered on contemporary Caribbean flavors and chef-driven tasting menus. Taman Beach Clubsits directly on the sand, blending Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with Punta Cana’s coastal setting. At Noodle Bar, the focus turns to pan-Asian broths, noodles and wok dishes. Sensazioni brings a modern Italian menu to the lineup, pairing handmade pastas with an elegant bar program.

The bar scene is just as layered. The Living Room carries W’s signature social energy, with infusion cocktails and a rotating DJ lineup. The Taproom adds a craft beer edge with local and international selections, while Chill Pool Barcaters to guests lounging by the water. The WET Deck — W’s iconic poolside space — is built for daytime energy, with music, shaded cabanas and cocktails delivered directly to the loungers.

And then there’s 33 1/3, the speakeasy hidden behind an unmarked door near the lobby. Its name nods to vinyl records, and its interiors are low-lit and moody. This is the resort’s after-hours hideaway, with curated cocktails, vintage design and a discreet, almost theatrical entrance that feels far removed from the rest of the property.

In other words, yes, this is an all-inclusive, but it’s unquestionably a W.

Beyond the Surface

The resort’s wellness offering centers on the AWAY Spa, a ten-room sanctuary featuring hydrotherapy circuits, a Himalayan salt room, steam and sauna spaces and a treatment menu focused on sound and sensory experiences. The poolscape blends lively and quiet zones, offering both social areas and secluded cabanas that face the shoreline.

Programming is intentionally light-touch, designed to give guests flexibility. Days move from wellness rituals and beach lounging to sunset DJ sessions and late-night drinks in the speakeasy. The atmosphere isn’t built on loud entertainment or regimented schedules — it’s curated, fluid and designed for adults looking for a more elevated version of the all-inclusive experience.

So what about prices? Rooms start at $953 per night right now, according to Google Hotels. That gets you a king room with a tropical view. For $1,054 per night, you get an ocean-view king room.

For a swim-up room, the price hikes to $1,375 — but we always view it as a worthy splurge.

A Statement for Punta Cana

For Marriott, W Punta Cana marks a major step in expanding its luxury and lifestyle footprint in the Caribbean. For Punta Cana, it signals something larger: the destination is not just growing its inventory, it’s evolving its identity.

The beaches will always be part of the draw. But here, the buzz is different. This opening isn’t just a milestone for the brand — it’s a redefinition of what all-inclusive luxury can look like in the Dominican Republic.
