For other scenes in the film, Chadha wanted to pay tribute to the London that Dickens knew and loved, too. “Beyond the iconic landmarks, we filmed in places steeped in Dickensian history, like Clerkenwell for Scrooge’s home and Camden’s Kelly Street for the Cratchit family,” she says.

“The local communities were so welcoming, some even joined as extras. For the exterior of Mr. Sood’s home, we found the perfect house, though the couple living there needed a little convincing. After chatting with their children, they happily agreed. It turned out they were huge fans of Bend It Like Beckham and Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging – a lovely surprise that made the whole experience feel like a blessing,” Chandha tells us.

“Lastly, shooting in Primrose Hill, my own neighbourhood, added a personal touch, and every location brought its own charm. London really became a character in the film, and sharing its beauty with the world is something I’m incredibly proud of.”

“We also filmed in Kenya, which was deeply personal for me. Our character’s backstory is rooted in Uganda, and shooting in Africa allowed me to honour that heritage and my own. My father was born in Kenya and always longed for its landscapes, so capturing those breathtaking scenes felt like a tribute to him. We filmed by a stunning lake that, I later learned, was the same location used for Out of Africa.”

In an all-star cast, expect to see familiar faces including Hugh Bonneville as Marley, Charithra Chandran as Bea (Sood’s first love), Danny Dyer as a London cab driver, Leo Suter and Pixie Lott as the Crachits’ and, of course, the three ghosts, played by Eva Longoria, Billy Porter and Boy George.
