Stanhill Farm, Kent
In and among the rainbow array of fruit and vegetables that this sibling-run farm grows, an impressive crop of pumpkins is ripe for the picking in October. For £37 you can fill your boots (or, more aptly, your wheelbarrow) with as many of the various-shaped and sized squashes as you please, or if you’re keeping your Halloween party more intimate this year, you can just pay-per-piece for the vegetables you decide to take home. Though, as the farm itself spans 150 acres, we’d be surprised if you leave with less than a boot-full of produce. It’s worth noting that tickets are best booked beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Foxes Farm, Colchester
Foxes Farm is well known in these ends thanks to the top-tier produce that’s plucked from its soil. Come October, the pumpkin patch opens for business for buzzy pick-your-own sessions. Swing by with all the family and enjoy refreshments, from indulgent hot chocolate to warming mulled wine, or wrap up warm and tuck into a picnic in the designated area.

Hatters Farm, Essex
Just a 30-minute drive from London, Hatter’s Farm is a year-round destination for wholesome, family-focused fun, though they truly excel during the pumpkin-picking season. Field-roaming is just the start here, as there’s a Hatter’s madhouse, a maze to navigate, roaming live actors, and food and drink to sustain all the excitement.

Willows Activity Farm, Hertfordshire
Celebrate the autumnal fruit at Willows’ Pumpkin Festival on select dates in October. There are thousands of pumpkins up for grabs, plus an interactive hunt for little ones (and big kids) to get involved in). The Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground is open for business – catch the lovable character and friends take to the stage for family-friendly shows on festival dates. An autumnal afternoon at Willows wouldn’t be complete without a few photos in Gourds Grotto – a make-for-the-grid pop-up filled with weird and wonderful pumpkin varieties. As well as being one of the best pumpkin patches near London, a visit here makes for the perfect weekend treat.
